Signer requirements at the bedside

A notary may only notarize a signature if the signer is willing, alert, and able to communicate intent. The signer must:

  • Have valid government-issued photo ID
  • Be conscious, alert, and able to communicate clearly
  • Sign willingly and understand what they’re signing
  • Sign in the notary’s presence (no pre-signing)

If the signer is unable to meet these conditions, the notarization cannot proceed — even if family is present. This is California law, not a Javier policy.

Local hospitals and care facilities served

  • Eisenhower Medical Center (Rancho Mirage)
  • Desert Regional Medical Center (Palm Springs)
  • JFK Memorial Hospital (Indio)
  • Hi-Desert Medical Center (Joshua Tree)
  • Hospice of the Valley facilities
  • Skilled nursing facilities and care homes throughout the Coachella Valley

Frequently asked questions

Can you come to the hospital today?

In most cases yes. Same-day hospital visits across the Coachella Valley are common. Call (760) 248-8423 with the hospital, room number, and document type.

What if the patient can't sign?

California law requires the signer to be willing, alert, and able to communicate intent. If those conditions can’t be met, the notarization can’t proceed. This protects the patient.

What if there's a power of attorney already in place?

If an agent is signing on behalf of a principal under a valid POA, the agent must have current valid ID and the POA document. Hospital staff and family can help locate the POA.

Are weekend or evening hospital visits available?

Yes — same-day and after-hours visits are routine.

Need a bedside notary?
